Munich Sightseeing
Quick Facts about Munich
Munich is the state capital of the Free State of Bavaria in Germany.
Munich was founded in 1158 by Henry the Lion.
The name "Munich" originally means "with the monks". Today's coat of arms of Munich shows a monk with a swear hand and a book in his hand. Whether it is an oath book, the city law book or a gospel book, is not exactly handed down - but one thing is known, his name: the "Münchner Kindl".
Since May 2015, the state capital of Munich with about 1.5 million inhabitants is the third largest city in Germany.
Munich is often referred to as the largest village in the world and a cosmopolitan city with a heart.
In Munich you will find a lot of real tourist attractions. Especially in the city center, these are in the immediate vicinity and therefore easy to reach on foot.
